FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We accept only traditional Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Medicare. This is because working with insurance generally limits our ability to provide customized care and leverage the assessment tools at our disposal. For more information see our fees page. Even though we are out of network with most insurers, as an out-of-network provider, we have partnered with Mentaya to help our clients save money on therapy. You can find this tool on our fees page.

We charge $200 per session. Additional fees apply to full collaborative assessment which can take a lot of time to interpret, discuss, and write up. We discuss our projected total rate at the outset and provide you with a superbill to present to your insurance.

A superbill is a statement of accounts that includes all the information such as diagnoses and procedure codes that insurance companies need in order to process a claim. We can provide this for you to submit to your insurance company or you can have our partners at Mentaya take care of it for you (see the fees page).

Unlike traditional assessments in which a psychologist administers tests to arrive at a diagnosis and recommendations, collaborative assessment involves you from the start. We help you identify questions about which you are curious and motivated to answer. Working together as equals, we help you discover answers to your questions and open new possibilities. We have found that the powerful tests we use can bring about rapid change that lasts. We know these tests inside and out (we are kind of geeky that way) and we help you benefit from them. We have several blogs about this work if you are curious to hear more. You can also visit our collaborative assessment or collaborative assessment for couples pages.

While we believe that assessments can help just about everyone (we use a number of brief assessments as part of all our intakes), full collaborative assessments are for people who really want to look under the hood and understand themselves better. Assessments can help you understand how certain symptoms or traits came to be and how they are adaptive. They also point to other ways of coping.

Psychotherapy and collaborative assessment go hand in hand. We use assessments as therapy tools, not stand-alone measures. For example, many of our therapy clients have had assessments done by us. In the course of their therapy, we reflect on the assessments to understand new challenges or symptoms. If you work with us, you will have some assessment data to work with because we believe that helps us start from a solid scientific and empathic understanding. I might say to a client who is struggling to conform to rules that seem arbitrary “that’s your scale 4 from the MMPI talking” and we will have a shared understanding of what that means.
