10 Tips for Managing & Achieving Weight Loss

1. Find your “WHY” for losing weight. Knowing why you want to do something helps to keep you motivated and connected to your goal.

2. Practice mindful eating. Slow down, chew slowly and savor your food. It takes the brain 20 minutes to register what you’ve eaten so try to make your meal last 20 minutes. Tips for eating slowly: divide your meal into 4 portions, use a timer to slowly eat for 5 minutes then pause eating for 2 to 3 minutes after 5, 10 and 15 min. Stop eating when comfortably full, not over stuffed.

3. Pay attention to your hunger level and only eat when truly hungry, but don’t wait until you’re hangry. If you wait too long you’re more likely to overeat because when we’re ravenous it’s hard to control the pace of eating and end up eating too much too fast.

4. Think about what you’re hungry for and how you’ll feel after you eat it. 5. Make sure you’re eating when you’re hungry and not emotionally eating. 6. Stay hydrated! Often we are thirsty instead of hungry

7. Use vegetables to reduce overeating between meals.

8. Do not eat within 2 hours of going to bed, you’ll sleep better if your stomach is not full

9. Avoid Alcohol – it’s easy to consume a lot of extra empty calories(in the alcohol and associated food), try substituting with nonalcoholic beverages but watch the calorie content

10.Plan ahead for the week, yes this means meal prepping/planning. A little forethought can go along way to ensuring healthy choices during the week
