Purpose of Our Anxiety Support Group

Edward Jenny & Associates welcome you to the Anxiety Workshop that is intended to help increase your understanding and knowledge about anxiety. Our group therapy is based on concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is an evidenced-based practice (EBP) for treating anxiety. The goal is to provide you with some skills to recognize and manage symptoms you may be experiencing.

The anxiety support group is designed to provide you with life-long tools you can use while overcoming anxiety-triggering situations. It’s important to know that the end goal is not to “get rid of” your anxiety. While unpleasant, some anxiety can actually be a helpful and motivating emotion. Our hope is that these sessions will provide you with a jumping board to integrate skills into your daily life in the service of learning how to reduce anxiety.

What You Can Expect from Joining Our Support Group?

By the end of this course, you will have received a lot of information and at times it may feel overwhelming. Remember, like any skill (e.g., learning to ride a bike), what you take away from our workshop will take time and practice to master. At times, you may experience challenges and/or find it difficult to implement these skills in your daily life. That’s okay and how change starts. It’s important to practice as much as you can regardless of setbacks.

It might even be helpful to think of your practice of these skills as a form of “mental health workout.” In the beginning, it may feel difficult and you may question why you need to practice these skills so often. However, daily practice prevents a buildup of anxiety and stress over time. The more you practice and use these skills as part of your daily routine, the less tedious they may seem because they simply become a regular part of daily life.
