Trauma can take many forms
Many people think that only dramatic or horrific events can cause trauma. However, many things can be traumatic. Sometimes it helps to differentiate capital T trauma from the very common little t trauma.
Capital T traumas are things like assaults, car accidents, or exposure to warfare. Little t traumas are much more common and many people might not recognize that they have had them. These include long-standing unavailability of parents or caregivers or being misunderstood for long parts of our childhood.
Trauma reactions take many forms. Here are some of the more common symptoms that may warrant a closer look:
You don’t need to be in pain. The important thing to know is that you are in control of the pace and what we talk about. Many people avoid getting help for trauma. This is because they believe they will re-live the experience.
Our trauma therapists work very closely with you to monitor how you are feeling and we match your pace in a supportive, safe environment.
Many decide to deepen their understanding and complete a collaborative assessment with us.

Research has repeatedly shown that feeling understood by your therapist is the most important element to success in therapy. At Edward Jenny and Associates, we prioritize building that foundation with every client.
It’s about the relationship.
We believe therapy and assessments go hand-in-hand to provide the safest, fastest way to help you move forward.
When it comes to therapists, there are many options to choose from. The most important aspect is that you feel safe and comfortable with the therapist you choose.
We are ready when you are.
The first step in this process is to meet with one of our trained trauma therapists. We will collect history and clarify the initial diagnosis. Most importantly we will get to know each other and develop questions you have about yourself and your trauma.
We help you understand how you learned to cope with your trauma and how that might be getting in your way now. Additionally, we will help you find more flexible ways to cope. We don’t take PTSD treatment plans out of a manual and force you into a generic plan.
We check in with you throughout the process to get clear on what you are learning about yourself, what needs to be adjusted, and what is working. We continue to provide the tools & support you need to help you feel happier and healthier.
